It all started in 2001… (Etap 37s, “Elizabeth” Toms River, NJ)
It all started in 2001.
After four seasons on our rebuilt 1982 Etap 20, we decided to go for something bigger.
The list was short due to the sailing conditions at Barnegat Bay: lots of wind and not enough water under the keel.
Our short-list of boats included (next to Etap) a center board keel Sabre , a "Crealock 34" and a "Halberg Rassey 31", but we considered them too heavy and too expensive.
When Etap introduced their shallow draft Tandem Keel on all models, our decision was quick : Etap.
The new "Etap 32s" looked beautiful at the 2002 Annapolis Boat Show, offering a solid design and comfortable layout, but then the Etap team showed us the pictures of the new "Etap37s" and we were impressed.
After two years of searching for the right boat, we decided in just a few minutes to buy a new Etap 37s without even seeing the boat.
In the spring of 2003 we paid a weekend visit to the Etap factory in Belgium to see the boat and the very efficient and clean production line. I went back home very satisfied with what I had seen : Etap builds excellent, unsinkable boats in a spotless facility.
Over lunch, the Etap management asked me : Did you buy the boat because of the unsinkable design?. My answer surprised everybody: "Boats do not sink every day. But because of the way Etap builds unsinkable boats, I know I have a strong, stiff, quiet, condensation free boat".
